UNFORGETTABLE CHILDWOOD
Curated by Ermanno Tedeschi, created by the Municipality of Matera in collaboration with the Embassy Israeli in Italy and the Superintendence for the Architectural and Landscape Heritage of Basilicata, arrives in the city of the Sassi, a symbol of beauty and power of art and history. Fifty Italian and Israeli artists dialogue on the theme of childhood, unforgettable both for pleasant and happy memories and for those more painful and sad.
Children have always been protagonists of novels, poems, dramas, widely represented in the world of literature and history of art, portraits of the child's condition in all its facets. A cross-section of childhood and adolescence as sociological and anthropological treatises. Childhood, as an indelible phase in everyone's life.
Thus, the itinerant project "Unforgettable Childhood" is born, starting from Matera, passing through several Italian cities and then arriving in Tel - Aviv next November. An exhibition in which works of painting, sculpture, photography and drawing coexist, different forms of expression but with a common denominator: the human being, represented with different facets, from the concept of childhood and play, as a moment of everyday life, to the theme of motherhood. Among the materials and techniques used, also fabrics, cork, adhesive tape, steel, iron and wood.
The Mayor of Matera Raffaello de Ruggieri, the curator of the exhibition Ermanno Tedeschi, the Director Paolo Verri and the President of the Matera-Basilicata Foundation 2019 Salvatore Adduce, the Representative of the Embassy of Israel in Italy, and the artists Carla Chiusano and Camilla Ancilotto will take part in the inauguration. Joy and amazement oblige us to come to terms with the dreams of our childhood.
The one thousand facets of reality take shape in a child’s face and help us feel again the pleasure of amazement and the capacity of fantasizing. Through the innocent unconditional smile of a child, they bring us back the joy of living beyond worries.
A levity that is also wisdom: the awareness that energy and enthusiasm make us overcome all difficulties and lead us to the future we long for. Balances and reflections in tension between reality and desire to face the coming years of our life.
