In the year of the Show's 25th birthday, the Award established by SaloneSatellite in 2010 to encourage the work of designers introduces a novelty. As a testimony to participation, and a reminder of the award ceremony, an award is added to the usual diploma. The conception of the metal sculpturetitled “Reflecting” is by artist Daniele Basso, also a past SaloneSatellite debutant. Invited to create the work, he chose to celebrate young designers by drawing inspiration from the Singer “chair for very short visits” designed by Bruno Munari in 1945. In his interpretation, the famous chair/sculpture is colored in red, to recall the image of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, and is intended to convey the teachings of the Master, a cross reference point of Italian and international design. “Find another way of doing things,” he suggested, between theory and practice. The invitation to change the point of view on design and our surroundings seems to adhere to the commitment and creativity that parade different, from year to year, at SaloneSatellite.
The Jury of industry experts is always chaired by Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator in the Department of Architecture and Design at MoMA (New York).
On its 25th birthday, the SaloneSatellite has about 600 participants from 32 countries and 22 international Design Schools and Universities from 13 countries.
