V ° Centenary Coronation of Our Lady Madonna d'Oropa
Main altar New basilica
Cristo Ritorto - Twisted Christ
Artwork for the Fifth Centenary Coronation of the Madonna d'Oropa
Made in indigo blue, unusual for the crucifix, it recalls the deep and intense color of contemplation, reflection, inner peace. Inspired by the work Tempus Angulare, in relation to which Mons. Peter B. Wells of the Vatican Secretariat of State reminded the artist how Pope Francis "urges an always fruitful artistic activity inspired by evangelical values", today Cristo Ritorto preserves its value symbolic of an object of faith that invites us to overcome the limits of matter to the spirit of things, but in the torsion of the bust, brings to the fore the pain and the effort of acting consistently in the way of good, humanizing the symbol to bring it closer to everyday life.
"It is an infinite pride and pleasure for me - explains Daniele Basso - to know about one of my works on the altar on this occasion not only for the historical significance of the event, but for the value it assumes in these years of global difficulty, in which we turn to Our Lady as we would to our mother, in search of the meaning of life. Confused by events, even frightened, today we have acquired greater awareness of our role in redesigning the future, so rediscovering values and symbols of our cultural identity is certainly the first step in the reconquest of a new global equilibrium. " Cristo Ritorto" basically represents the opportunity, with the contemporary language of Art, to investigate the transcendent and celebrate the sacredness of life ".
Thanks to the intervention of Irene Finiguerra, gallery owner and art curator, with whom Daniele Basso has been collaborating for some time, he obtained the authorization from the rector Don Michele Berchi and from the canon Don Massimo Minola to place the work on the main altar of the ancient Basilica in the days of the Coronation.
