Cristo Ritorto by Daniele Basso for the Fifth Coronation of Our Lady of Oropa.

A new element has been included in the event: the placement on the main altar of the ancient Basilica of Daniele Basso's work "Cristo Ritorto".

Thanks to the intervention of Irene Finiguerra, gallery owner and art curator, with whom Daniele Basso has been collaborating for some time, he obtained the authorization from the rector Don Michele Berchi and from the canon Don Massimo Minola to place the work on the altar in the days of the Coronation . The work, 38 cm high with the base, has been reinterpreted today specifically for this occasion in indigo blue resin and olive wood. An unusual color for the crucifix that refers to the deep and intense color of contemplation, reflection, inner peace.

Cristo Ritorto retains the symbolic value of an object of faith and invites us to overcome the limits of matter to the spirit of things, but through the torsion of the bust, the full figure and the sharpest edges, it brings back pain and struggles to act consistently in the way of good.

He humanizes the symbol bringing it closer to everyday life.

Torsion hence the name of the work, which also innovates the vision of Christ on the cross, giving for the first time 2 points of view to the observer: the classic front one, and the new lateral one with reference to the position of the feet.

"It is an infinite pride and pleasure for me - explains Daniele Basso - to know about one of my works on the altar on this occasion not only for the historical significance of the event, but for the value it assumes in these years of global difficulty, in we turn to Our Lady as we would to our mother, in search of the meaning of life. Confused by events, even frightened, we have today acquired greater awareness of our role in redesigning the future, then rediscovering values and symbols of our cultural identity in which to reflect our values is certainly the first step in regaining a new global equilibrium. "Cristo Ritorto" basically represents the opportunity, with the contemporary language of Art, to investigate the transcendent and celebrate the sacredness of life".
