SaloneSatellite Award Ceremony – Fiera Rho – April 17th, 2024
“Universo Satellite. 25 anni di SaloneSatellite” exhibition – Triennale of Milan – April 2024

Federlegno Arredo Eventi and Marva Griffin Wilshire, Founder and Curator of SaloneSatellite, an exhibition event of the Salone del Mobile.Milano dedicated to designers under 35, on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Event choose artist Daniele Basso to create the SaloneSatellite Award, a work in steel and resin entitled Riflettendo (Reflecting).

“The Salone del Mobile in Milan is an event where the protagonist has always been the product“-the artist explains-”that's why for the 25th anniversary of Salone Satellite I felt it was important to go beyond the object, expressing individual aspirations, values, skills and experiences. Bricks of creativity to overcome mental, physical, cultural, environmental and technological limitations, and get to imagine, design and realize the future. Because this is what being a designer is all about: capturing the idea with the design that becomes an object.”

Riflettendo (Reflecting) is the symbol of the idea that goes beyond the design and becomes an object: in a sheet of mirrored steel, half a chair model ‘Singer - for very short visits’ by Bruno Munari is completed reflected in the mirror.Idea and object merge in our visual perception and become one.

“To create the award,” Basso concludes, ”I made concrete a plunge into my past by drawing inspiration from Bruno Munari, who considered the ability to design better when the object made remained the same as the idea that generated it. Thus the work “Reflecting” metaphorically unites the idea with the object , which completes itself reflected in the mirror. An award for concrete thinking and the ability to imagine and design the future! Made of quality, ethical and responsible ideas and projects with correct solutions for the well-being of humanity. Confirming the social and cultural role of design in building a better future to live in.”

The Jury of industry experts is chaired again by Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator in the Department of Architecture and Design at MoMA (New York).
